String Design

It is evident that ensuring available capacity for high reliability and availability is a fundamental assumption that are core conditions for effective and dependable long-term operation of the BESS, often overlooked aspect in financial assessments. With this consideration, we have designed a string BESS solution with the approach that enhances the comprehensiveness of BESS operation management and control while bolstering operational safety.
  • ONE-ON-ONE STRING MANAGEMENT DESIGN
String Structure BESS is a system design that leads each battery string to connect to its own modular PCS individually. Under this topology, each string is an independent unit structure in DC circuitry. Charging and discharging of each battery string are independent, leading to smaller short-circuit currents, and branch faults do not affect the operation of the entire BESS.
  • High Availability
    Long System Lifespan
    Simple O&M
  • AVAILABLE CAPACITY GUARANTEE
The core strength of BESS lies in independent battery string management. Complete isolation of DC voltage between strings eliminates bias and loop currents present in DC bus structures. Consequently, the risk of significant, system-wide capacity degradation due to voltage dips in individual strings is completely mitigated. The overall system can still function at a reduced capacity and power proportional to the affected string's decline. This translates to a manageable performance decrease, not a complete system failure.
  • EXTENDED SYSTEM OPERATING LIFE
To reach the nominal AC outlet voltage, efficiency will be reduced, corresponding to a reduction in the AC output power of the inverter. Only through balancing, optimization, stringing and all kinds of protective design, complemented with proper regular maintenance, can the output meet expectations to the largest extent possible. Under string structure, there is no ringing or bias flow between the individual cell strings. The string BESS therefore has a longer life expectancy in terms of system architecture than systems with a DC bus grid connection.
  • CONVENIENT MAINTENANCE
The need for convenient maintenance of BESS has always been one of the fundamental issues at the bottom of large-scale BESS. The natural advantage of a string-type BESS topology is that battery strings are decoupled from one another, without interference. Therefore, when maintaining and repairing faulty strings, the scope of work is consistent with that for maintaining a single string, involving balancing and calibration, which is easy to perform.
